How does the program work?

A Precious Child collects donated new and gently-used sports equipment and distributes these items to children in the most need in the community through our Resource Center as well as our Agency Partners.

Children are able to submit a scholarship application for any sport of their choosing to help cover the cost of registration, tournament fees, camp fees, uniform fees and needed equipment, as well as other sports related fees.

A Precious Child believes that no child should be sidelined because of their circumstances. These scholarships give children in need the opportunity to participate in sports alongside their peers despite the hardships they are facing.

Why we do what we do

Extracurricular activities are expensive and become an unattainable dream for children in need due to the already stretched budgets of their families. With funding being cut for youth sports and physical education being taken out of schools, as well as the expense to participate in organized sports, the giveSPORTS program is a bridge to help a child stay active and put them on the path to a higher GPA and a higher attendance rate.

Participation in extracurricular sports significantly impacts short- and long-term educational, emotional, behavioral and physical outcomes for disadvantaged, poverty stricken youth (International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity).

Children who have the opportunity to play sports learn many life lessons such as team work, leadership, sportsmanship, responsibility, ethics, time management, how to strive to win and how to cope with losing. All of these skills translate into the classroom and, one day, into careers.

Our giveSPORTS Equipment Drive

The 2019 giveSPORTS Equipment Drive in partnership with Kroenke Sports Charities is on September 7th from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the Pepsi Center Toyota RAV4 Lot. The giveSPORTS Equipment Drive has collected over 177,000 pieces of sports equipment and more than $75,000 in sports scholarships to benefit more than 22,000 kids in need living in the Denver metro area.

Ways to Participate in the Equipment Drive:

Join the Equipment Drive Challenge

From August 26th – September 6th, compete against other sports teams, leagues, community organizations and companies to see who can collect the most pieces of sporting equipment and raise the most funds for A Precious Child’s giveSPORTS program. We will provide you with as many collection bins as you need. Collect donations and then drop them off at the Equipment Drive event on September 7th.

Donate Goods at the Equipment Drive Event

You don’t have to host a drive in order to participate in our event! Simply stop by the Pepsi Center on September 7th to drop off donations. Invite your friends, family and co-workers to do the same!

Make a Monetary Donation

If you can’t make it to the event on September 7th, you can still help! We have received a large amount of scholarship requests this year and are greatly in need of monetary donations. Click on the donate button below to help put a kid in the game.
