Annual giveSPORTS Equipment Drive in Partnership with Kroenke Sports Charities

Each year, A Precious Child and Kroenke Sports Charities partner for the giveSPORTS Equipment Drive at the Ball Arena. Overall, the giveSPORTS Equipment Drive has collected nearly 200,000 pieces of sports equipment and raised more than $100,000 in funding to provide uniforms, registration fees and other costs associated with participating in sports for children in need within the Denver metro Area.

This year, we are celebrating our 10th Annual Equipment Drive! Since 2012, in partnership with Kroenke Sports Charities, we have been able to serve almost 50,000 children!  Let’s keep the momentum going!

Please drop off new and gently-used equipment:
Sept. 11th from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the Ball Arena Rav 4 Parking Lot

The typical American family spends an average of $700 per year on their child’s sports activities, but some spend upwards of thousands in order to pay for equipment, travel, camps, fees and more.

The Annual giveSPORTS football skills camp will be providing 200 children ages 7-13 with the opportunity to not only learn the game of football from a Denver Bronco, but also learn the importance of sportsmanship, the value of teamwork, and the chance to make new friendships.

How does the program work?

A Precious Child collects donated new and gently-used sports equipment and distributes these items to children in the most need in the community through our Resource Center as well as our Agency Partners.

Children are able to submit a scholarship application for any sport of their choosing to help cover the cost of registration, tournament fees, camp fees, uniform fees and needed equipment, as well as other sports related fees.

A Precious Child believes that no child should be sidelined because of their circumstances. These scholarships give children in need the opportunity to participate in sports alongside their peers despite the hardships they are facing.

Why we do what we do

Extracurricular activities are expensive and become an unattainable dream for children in need due to the already stretched budgets of their families. With funding being cut for youth sports and physical education being taken out of schools, as well as the expense to participate in organized sports, the giveSPORTS program is a bridge to help a child stay active and put them on the path to a higher GPA and a higher attendance rate.

Participation in extracurricular sports significantly impacts short- and long-term educational, emotional, behavioral and physical outcomes for disadvantaged, poverty stricken youth (International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity).

Children who have the opportunity to play sports learn many life lessons such as team work, leadership, sportsmanship, responsibility, ethics, time management, how to strive to win and how to cope with losing. All of these skills translate into the classroom and, one day, into careers.
