Annual giveSPORTS Equipment Drive

This year, we will be celebrating our 11th Annual Equipment Drive, in partnership with Kroenke Sports Charities. Since 2012, we have been able to serve almost 65,000 individuals with over 202,800 pieces of equipment and raised over $120,000!

This year the giveSPORTS Equipment Drive will take place on Saturday Sept. 24th from 9:00AM-11:00AM at the Ball Arena Rav 4 Parking Lot. 1000 Chopper Cir, Denver, CO 80204.

giveSPORTS Skills Camps

The typical American family spends an average of $700 per year on each child’s sports activities, but some spend upwards of thousands in order to pay for equipment, travel, camps, fees and more.

A Precious Child giveSPORTS Program provides children with access to participate in sports. A big part of the giveSPORTS program is the A Precious Child annual giveSPORTS Skills Camps, where A Precious Child partners with local athletes to provide children with the opportunity to not only learn the game of football, basketball, or baseball from a Professional Player, but also learn the importance of sportsmanship, the value of teamwork, and the chance to make new friendships.

In 2022, we held our 2nd annual Dalton Risner giveSPORTS football camp with Denver Broncos’ offensive lineman returning once more to teach kids the game of football! The smiles on everyone’s faces were contagious, and Dalton does an amazing job of making every child feel special and capable of achieving their dreams.

A Precious Child was also invited to participate in the 2022 ProCamps football camp with Denver Broncos player Courtland Sutton, and we were thrilled to cover the registration fees for several campers so they could have a once-in-a-lifetime experience. For many of these kids, this was so much more than a 2-day football camp.

2022 was also the first giveSPORTS baseball camp with Ryan McMahon. We had so much fun learning from a Colorado Rockies Professional Athlete and breaking out some dance moves on the field. For many of the kids, it was their first time playing baseball. At the end of the day, all of the kids left feeling inspired, motivated and excited to get into the game!

How does the program work?

A Precious Child collects donated new and gently-used sports equipment and distributes these items to children in the most need in the community through our Resource Center as well as our Agency Partners.

Children are able to submit a scholarship application for any sport of their choosing to help cover the cost of registration, tournament fees, camp fees, uniform fees and needed equipment, as well as other sports related fees.

A Precious Child believes that no child should be sidelined because of their circumstances. These scholarships give children in need the opportunity to participate in sports alongside their peers despite the hardships they are facing.

Why we do what we do

Extracurricular activities are expensive and become an unattainable dream for children in need due to the already stretched budgets of their families. With funding being cut for youth sports and physical education being taken out of schools, as well as the expense to participate in organized sports, the giveSPORTS program is a bridge to help a child stay active and put them on the path to a higher GPA and a higher attendance rate.

Participation in extracurricular sports significantly impacts short- and long-term educational, emotional, behavioral and physical outcomes for disadvantaged, poverty stricken youth (International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity).

Children who have the opportunity to play sports learn many life lessons such as team work, leadership, sportsmanship, responsibility, ethics, time management, how to strive to win and how to cope with losing. All of these skills translate into the classroom and, one day, into careers.
